The SUP Safer course is based on the British Canoeing Awarding Body Educational Philosophy and, as such, the ethos of ‘supporting the paddler’ is the main focus of the course, encouraging individuals to consider where they paddle, the equipment they use and provide practical solutions if they get into difficulty.

Course Content +
The 4-hour programme is delivered within a sheltered water environment where you will explore and learn to appreciate the potential hazards you might encounter and be prepared to avoid or deal with them.
The course covers 4 key modules:
- SUP Equipment
- Environment and Weather
- Planning
- Safety on the Water
With plenty of scope for personalised coaching, we can help you reach your highest potential throughout the course.

Experience level? +
To attend this course, you should:
- Be comfortable in and on the water
- Be able to swim or be happy to float
- Have preferably paddled a SUP before, but it might also be your first time.
Age restrictions? +
The course is suitable for all ages above 12 years old ( if you have younger children drop us a message and we’ll see what we can sort out). All under 18 year olds need to be accompanied by an adult.
Who is this assessment for? +
Anyone looking to build their confidence and skill set on the water in a beautiful coastal setting.
Perhaps you’re aiming to buy your own SUP or already own one, maybe you want to learn the basics or maybe you are already a jedi but would like some local knowledge and support to allow you to journey around our amazing coastline with some of the worlds strongest tidal flows.
You may be part of an organised SUP club, a group of friends, an adventurous family or you may be a solo paddler.
Qualifications gained? +
Attendance certificates are issued to candidates. It can also be tied in with BC Personal Performance Awards.
Where? +
You’ll meet at our base near Solva to get kitted up (exact location will be shared in your confirmation of booking) and we’ll head to a nearby harbour which we’ve chosen to best suit the conditions on the day.

- The use of one of our fleet of high quality NRS Inflatable SUPs
- Touring paddling jacket
- Personnel PFD (floatation vest)
- Paddle
- Leash
- Drybag
- Long John wetsuit
What to Bring +
In your confirmation of booking, you’ll receive a full list of basic items to bring on the day e.g. bathers to wear under the wetsuit, a water bottle, a towel, old shoes or wetsuit boots etc.
